    Cant wait for the anime and book review!!❤. Man have you ever read "Ultra Heaven" manga? You can only read online. Summary: In a world where all feeling is artificial and where everyone is a potential drug addict, nothing has really changed: the excess is near at hand and very few substances are considered dangerous and put under a strict control by a hygiene office, which has full power on the drug addicts, who are in extreme conditions. kunmanga.to/manga/ultra-heaven-ojmq4o

    Criterion Collection was this beacon of light and high standards when I discovered them in he late 90's. I love Gilliam. Time Bandits is a top 10 of all time. Scary as all get out . . . .Returnnnn the MMMMap. Criterion as of late has started editing movies and removing questionable scenes which to me is garbage and sadly part of the woke agenda

    • @LiminalSpaces03
      @LiminalSpaces03 6 дней назад

      I agree 100 percent. As a kid in Utah, some of the video stores had a Mormon section where you could rent edits of popular movies that were Mormon-friendly. It seemed insane to me but at least you could still get the actual film in the same quality. I can't just call all aspects of wokeness bad, but censoring and banning art is completely unacceptable. I don't mind a rating system or different sections in a library or video store, but just banning it outright is the worst. Personally, I see this behavior more from the ultra-right crowd than the woke crowd, but there are obviously total idiots on both sides of the fence. Thanks for the great comment.

    Love Terry Gilliam! As I told your brother in his last video, the entire Dreamers Trilogy (Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen) is fantastic. I think, of the three, Munchausen may be my favorite, though mainly because it was the first Gilliam film I ever saw (at around age 16). It just completely captured me and it made me a lifelong fan. His films always have such phenomenal casts and that one is no different. The late Robin Williams as king of the moon was just brilliant. Recently picked up The Man of La Mancha, which I recommend if you haven't seen it yet. Yes, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is another fave. Terry Gilliam and Hunter S. Thompson... two great tastes that taste great together. Fisher King was the second Gilliam film I saw; it came out right about the time I graduated high school, and again, Robin Williams... ~chef's kiss~ The thing I've always loved most about that film though is how it just randomly breaks out into a musical number right in the middle (in an airport, I think?), complete with Busby Berkeley-level choreography. That definitely shows his Monty Python roots, like the musical numbers from The Meaning of Life. Yeah, I don't have Apple+ so I won't be able to watch this series, but I get the impression I won't be missing much anyway. I assume you'll let us know if it's any good.

    • @LiminalSpaces03

    I don't know why they'd make a series out of this other than being completely out of original IP. Seriously, it's becoming laughable. That's what happens when you get risk-averse, money-hungry accountants running studios.

    • @LiminalSpaces03
      @LiminalSpaces03 6 дней назад

      Absolutely. I totally agree. These companies are so taken with the idea of streaming, but I don't believe they can actually make it work. The budgets of these productions are so high because they think that's all we care about. They have forgotten what TV is and what it is for. It would be wonderful to just sit down and watch my show week after week without all the hype and nonsense that comes with a new streaming premiere.

  • @Crabby303

    I love this film, first time I saw it I was a kid on hols with my family and they had cable in the resort so I'd never have seen this otherwise until years later (Ireland in the 80's lol), this and Brazil I think are Gilliam's most perfectly-realised films imo.

    inception is garbage. it makes no gd sense but even without that its just boring AF. 100% agree not as bad as others that get praise like dues ex or annihlation. Or the Dune movies which dont HAHA even mention eugenics or call him the Kwizatz Haderach got some little twink playing a conqueror who excells in hand to hand combat lol. we know how he got the job inthe bathroom of a nightclub. Lynch's was much better at least he got alot of it right. They were like "are we gona throw out tatooine yet. No wait we can recyle it ONE more time" scumbags thier job is to take beauty and make it ugly. to vandalize art.

My favortie Dune book is either 4-5-6 prolly 4. Is any other Herbert worth reading? i always assumed he put all his best stuff into dune. Brian Herbert was ok with House Atriedes prequels but after that he just stopped giving a hell. by the time he finished the dune series it was like i was readin a YA novel

Ill tell you one thing youll learn the citadel, these old cathedrals are ancient rusty spaceships. there is no fantasy here just a man with a 16th century understanding trying to describe tech we can barley imagine that becomes clearer and clearer as it proceeds. Why are you taling about it like this reeeehhhhhhh got me sperging. By the time u get to book 3 it is the best shit ever written its prolly even better than Dune at least for the fact that he finished. it exposes GOT for utter literary toilet paper it is. so if you only read book 1 get on 2 id say its much better than 1, 3-4 are twice as good. jeez 4 is like mind blowing for real absolutely mind blowing. 👿🔱😈.. Ive been trying to finish this book series since the 90s.. My friend read it and said i had to check it out..i thought the cover was cool so i gave it a chance.. I was thinking it would be a medeival story about a torturer.. Nope..a future world with make believe Concepts and words that the reader is supposed to understand what the author is saying and trying to convey... the author wants you to piece together his Little Riddles so you can figure out what the book is about and whats going on.. sadly this is a lot of the older Science Fiction and Fantasy Books that I've read from the past especially the 60s and 70s books.. 2 overly abstract in complicated for the reader... the author assumes that the reader will know what they are thinking or the author is being a dick and just making it hard for the reader to understand.. I wouldn't recommend it as a good read you'll probably end up like I did the same to yourself what the f is this about and what's going on

The opening description of the necropolis n its tombs n mausoleum are really great. I just struggle with first person story telling when I’m tryin to fall asleep Think I’m gonna try it one more time tonight n then I think il try n get a paperback n read it myself.

    Sounds like they were riffing on Kirk's trial in Undiscovered Country. I always loved that film because it illuminates the line between ignorant prejudice and hatred born from personal trauma. And even though some fans didn't like that, I appreciate that nuance especially considering Kirk's outright prejudice against Klingons in TOS.

    Shadow of the Torturer is _supposed_ to be thoroughly disorienting on its own. You really have to read all the books to becoming truly oriented, and even then, it's not all immediately apparent. This series is DEEP. Book of the New Sun is a truly great work that requires study to fully ingest and appreciate. Those mysteries for which you desire resolution? They only multiply. It's only after it's all done and you have time to think about it, and maybe read what others have said about it, that answers start to emerge. For instance, the building that the Torturer's Guild occupies (the Matachin Tower)...did you know that it's a defunct space ship? The clues are all these, but the book never _tells_ you that, because Severian doesn't know that. And no, it doesn't eventually become a plot point. It's just a thing that's there, a clue to the hidden layers of the series and the world it creates. Wolfe invents new words in these books which are constructed from the roots of much older words, and this itself mirrors the world he has created, while at the same time disconnecting the reader from their familiar reality. I agree with your friends who consider this to be their favorite work of all time (including the entire cycle). It's one of those things that grows within you through contemplation.
